I liked the stories and I found them to be pretty well written but holy cow, were there ever a TON of typos. No exaggeration, about one every other page...really was distracting. This is not something that would require some brilliant editor to figure out, even a casual reader like myself could have done a quick run-through and found all the misspelled words, duplicate words, missing words, etc.That being said, I still plan to read more in this series.
My favorite line, "At that time he was the man who the boy he was had dreamed he would be." It sums up a lifetime of disappointment and triumph. Too often, fantasy characters either exist in a world so foreign that I can't relate to them or they are so rooted in the mundane that the fantasy element is lost.The trend that David Gemmell began with his Legend and Waylander series is alive and well in Kormak and I love the idea of the warrior priest forging ahead in the face of overwhelming odds out of loyalty to an oath he took as a boy. The spirit of barbarian honor mixed with cynicism born of experience makes for a compelling character. Buy this book.
These books are great! I don't necessarily require that an action hero have depth of character so long as the action is good. However, it is nice to have both, and these books do. There is plenty of action, and Kormak seems more real.
Like Robert E Howard and his Conan stories as I do? Then Bill Kings Kormak character feels like he's sprung from that same cloth where larger than life heroes battle the minions of evil in a finely realised world. Excellent reading!
It's good for sword and sorcery readers. Others may not like it. The story is somewhat predictable but it's still a good read.
King is an old hand at writing fantasy and science fiction in franchise universes. This is a wonderful collage of the ideas and stories from him that did not quite fit in more sanitized worlds but come together in a fine Swords and Sorcery legendarium.
I have read other books from this author, and was not disappointed with this book. It is a great story of swords and sorcery. This was also very nicely priced. I would recommend to any fantasy lover.
I was surprised at the way this was written. I also am a big Robert E Howard fan and King has written a masterful character with a compelling short story line....one of my new favorites.
